Breaking New Ground

Major renovations are happening at Brooklyn Public Library! Learn about Central Library's Plaza + Auditorium project and BPL's future Visual & Performing Arts Library.

BPL Plaza

Central Library's new Plaza + Auditorium will transform the Library's front steps and Plaza into the community's front porch. Destined to be one of Brooklyn's most exciting outdoor civic spaces, the Plaza will serve as an outdoor reading room, gathering area and performance space, with a café and beautiful landscaping. Beneath the Plaza, a new Auditorium will host rich educational and cultural programs, and be a center for learning and culture. The Plaza + Auditorium is scheduled to open in the late Fall 2007.

Visual & Performing Arts Library (VPA)

Brooklyn Public Library's bold and precedent-setting Visual & Performing Arts Library (VPA) will celebrate creativity in Brooklyn-past, present and future. The first library in New York City devoted to both the visual and performing arts, the VPA will offer an array of free arts resources, library services and performance spaces, and provide a dynamic new public space for the community.
