What we know is…

According to the Center for Disease Control, an estimated 38,490 young people (13-24) in the United States received a diagnosis of AIDS, and accounted for 4% of the 929,985 total estimated AIDS diagnosis through 2003. An estimated 10,041 (2%) died, and the diagnosis of infection in young people rose from 3.9 to 4.7 percent from 1999 to 2003. In 2001, African Americans accounted for 56% of all HIV infections.
